A homage to 59 miners who have been killed in the last 8 years

During eight years of Edi Rama and Socialist Party rule, 59 miners have died in Albania according to official data. They did not die because of the will of God, bad luck or individual recklessness. These murders are the result of illegal licenses, lack of inspections, pressure to silence critical voices, the crushing of the trade-unionist movement, the financing of electoral campaigns and money envelopes that emerge from the underground to reach the Prime Minister’s office. 59 miners are the victims of the greed of the masters and governmental corruption.
In Edi Rama’s Albania, working conditions in the mines are among the most horrific. The life of an Albanian miner is 25 times more in danger than that of a miner in the USA, 17 times more than the life of a miner in China, 10 times more than that of a miner in Peru and 8 times more than the life of a miner in South Africa.
The blood of 59 underground workers is in the hands of Edi Rama!
The champagne “socialist” and the bread of the people
The announcement of Vice PM Arben Ahmetaj that the rise in bread prices is affordable by the people, is proof of the irresponsibility – that borders mockery – of the powerful vis-à-vis the people.
During the eight years of Edi Rama’s and Arben Ahmetaj’s rule, not just the savings but also the general consumption of the citizens has dropped dramatically. Meanwhile, according to the Institute of Statistics, from 2020 to 2021 all the prices for basic consumption goods have risen as well as other living costs, while employment, wages and pensions have stagnated.
Vice PM Ahmetaj, self-nicknamed with the zoological name “The tiger”, who never misses the gala-dinners with the oligarchs paid by public money, has long ago forgotten what bread tastes like. Whereas, to the defense of public interest he still remains a stranger.
Such champagne “socialists” must be forced to recall the taste of bread and what it means to struggle every day in order to win it, as all common people do. Otherwise, living in this country will become truly unbearable.
A step forward for democracy
On the 5th of October, the Constitutional Court ruled in favor of the request by independent candidate Elton Debreshi, represented by his lawyer Gentian Serjani, considering as unconstitutional point 1 of Article 162 of the Electoral Code. According to this point, independent candidates running in a single district, in addition to the number of votes collected for that district, were required to obtain not less than 1% of the votes nationally, thus significantly lowering their chances of entering parliament in comparison to the larger parties.
We, the activists of Organizata Politike, have raised our voices for months on end against this anti-democratic form of discrimination, intentionally included in the Electoral Code by the large parties in order to discourage citizens’ initiatives and independent candidates coming forward from the communities.
The political and social democratization of Albania is still a long process away. But thanks to our collective effort, in the upcoming elections independent candidates and political justice will have one chance more.
