We've become a political party!
The Movement Together will proudly position itself on the left side of the political spectrum, in a country where a genuine left-wing political force has been absent for 30 years.
Dear comrades and friends,
We, the activists of Organizata Politike, have decided to take an important step forward by founding a political party that we named Lëvizja BASHKЁ (Movement Together).
In 12 years of activism, we have been involved in many social struggles worth fighting for, in solidarity with workers, students and citizens. We have helped workers set up new and independent trade unions in many sectors of the industry, such as chromium miners (SMBB), petrol refinery workers (SNB), call-centre workers (Solidariteti), and lately garment workers. We have marched alongside them in manifestations; we have been arrested and beaten up by the guards of the oligarchs who have usurped these economic sectors; we have struggled with students for free access to public universities against a neoliberal reform with The Movement For The University (LPU); we have called upon the solidarity of the people in social causes such as the right to public transport, against the occupations of public spaces by skyscrapers, for the recognition of a basic minimum income in Albania, etc.
Today, as activists of Movement Together, we shall continue every day to struggle for social justice. Albania is a country permeated by contradictions: one-third of the population lives below the poverty line of 5.5 USD/day; the condition of workers is precarious; they could be fired without prior notice, the wages can be delayed indefinitely, they are forced to work during weekends and extra time without proper compensation, they are frequently paid less than the minimum wage; education and healthcare are being privatized while swathes of young people abandon the country each year, and yet a handful of oligarchs have seized control over key sectors of the economy, accumulating a nauseating amount of wealth and power.
The Movement Together will proudly position itself on the left side of the political spectrum, in a country where a genuine left-wing political force has been absent for 30 years. Those parties that formally bear that name have served the interests of the economic oligarchy and their governing platform has nothing to distinguish them from the neoliberal right-wing. We are the voice of the voiceless workers who confront starvation every day, we are the voice of the unemployed who are begging for work by the side of the pavement, we are the voice of the disillusioned young people who shall stay and fight this political elite instead of leaving the country, we are the voice of the small bakery that is being gobbled up by the oligarch’s conglomerate, we are the voice of the nurses and doctors who provide their service in depleted working conditions.
Together, as the conjunction of those who suffer the repression of current politics;
Together, as the coagulation of the wills to change society;
Together, because together we are strong!
